We want our children back in schools, only if they can be safe - physically, mentally, socially and emotionally!
Dr. Cheryl Butts
01:20:44
Let's not just invite people to the party - let's ask them to dance!!!! Equity and Inclusion is a must! It must happen now!
Kristine Rivera
01:20:56

Amen Jamie!
Carlillian Thompson
01:25:52
As a principal in Baltimore City I can honestly say that our parents care. Many are fearful, however they do want their children to be successful. I am blessed to have an amazing team that is not afraid to visit these houses and take food, supplies, and materials, and chromebooks to make sure that our students have what they need. Thanks to partnerships provided by the District.
Corey Basmajian
01:26:40
Internet needs to become essential for families across our nation. The lack of internet creates an unnecessary divide. In Baltimore City, we have done great work to ensure connection for families, but we need to make sure this sticks AFTER the pandemic to bring Internet for all
Sonya Hunte, Office of Equity, Anchorage School District, AK
01:29:28
Hello Atlanta and Anchorage colleagues! Hi Tarlesha! A special shoutout to my EdD cohort for engaging in this dialogue. Hi Kristine and Sherri! I even saw some sorority sisters, Jatisha! Thank you all for being equity champions!
Carlillian Thompson
01:29:37
True
Kristine Rivera
01:32:42
The fact that families have to choose between WIFI and food or rent, is an injustice. We need to push our legislators to make broadband free and accessible for all communities.
Kristine Rivera
01:33:21
@Sonya - Thank you for being a champion for the children and families in Anchorage!
Dr. Sonja Santelises, Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public Schools, MD
01:34:03
We have heard some of that sentiment as well Mariane. It really speaks to what I referenced about families in all zip codes, Black and Brown families never experiencing school the same way again. Families who now see their children thriving will no longer tolerate what they did before.
Xavier Downs
01:35:17
Student and community connnectedness is essential

01:35:48
My greatest challenge is not having the supportive progressive board, in terms of these efforts and mindsets.
Sarah Taylor
01:36:12
Or listen to Jason Reynolds' audiobook. He's such an engaging writer and storyteller.
Jose Reyes
01:36:49
Stamped is Jason Reynolds' YA "Remix" of Ibram X. Kendi's Stamped from the Beginning.
Paul Webster
01:36:54
What have been some of the best books and other resources (podcasts, etc) for staff discussion groups about equity and race, particularly in white majority educator settings where they serve mostly students of color?
Dr. Sonja Santelises, Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public Schools, MD
01:37:48
Great question NIKKI - the current times have caused us to accelerate some of the curriculum work we began prior to the pandemic. Our B’More Me curriculum for 6-12 grades is designed to create space for young people - particularly POC - to have increased voice through the study of our city and the often untold histories of Black and Brown people being prioritized.
Sarah Taylor
01:38:05
@Paul Webster: White Fragility ted talk and book; 10 things white teachers should know when talking about race podcast; Stamped Remix by Jason Reynolds
Wendi Anderson
01:38:23
I just finished reading "The Talk Conversations About Race, Love& Truth". It is a collection of 18 pieces that would be amazing conversation starters for any classroom.
Dr. Sonja Santelises, Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public Schools, MD
01:38:31
From the B’More Me curriculum students are sponsoring their own forums and initiatives

01:39:21
Waking Up White and White Fragility are two good ones that we have used.
Sonya Hunte, Office of Equity, Anchorage School District, AK
01:39:28
Student and community connectedness is critical. The how is key in engagement, trust, and reliability.

Yes indeed @Dr.Santelises
Emily Weidner
01:44:17
I love that! It gives me a lot to think about.
Hodge_Lakhita
01:44:36
That is so true. Our students of color often receive substandard education as a result of poor quality teaching and inadequate resources and access.

Keishla Ceaser-Jones
01:49:24
That hit me. We treat excellence in education for Black and Brown students as a limited commodity. It’s a function of the institutional racism for sure.
Deatrice Johnson
01:49:28
Stamped is excellent in Audible.
Sonya Hunte, Office of Equity, Anchorage School District, AK
